Practical in-house training courses provide hands-on expertise directly at the machines and using original tools
As early as 2025, two training courses, each with eight participants, were successfully conducted. These were based on the SKZ certification program for certified setup technicians, which was specifically tailored to Ford’s requirements. Key topics in plastics technology and injection molding were covered—including the safe adjustment of mold clamping, securing the injection phase, and the correct determination of the holding pressure phase.
There was a special focus on practical application: Participants worked exclusively with original Ford tools, including components such as fuel caps and tow hook covers. This allowed them to directly apply their knowledge to their own production environment.
“We are pleased that in 2026 we will once again be able to conduct two in-house training sessions in small groups of eight participants each, in collaboration with Ford in Saarlouis,” says Ulrich Schätzlein, Senior Injection Molding Trainer at SKZ. “The high practical component and the work with real components ensure lasting learning success.”
Defect Analysis and Process Optimization for Bumper Components
The four-day training sessions in 2026 place a special emphasis on the analysis and systematic correction of typical injection molding defects. The focus is on bumpers, whose molds were returned to Saarlouis by various suppliers and are now being used on other machines.
A filling study is conducted at the outset. In this process, the hot runner nozzle cascade is optimized to prevent streaks, achieve uniform flow lines, and eliminate surface defects. Crucial parameters include the precise adjustment of the injection speed and the optimal setting of the holding pressure phase.
For component quality, adherence to tight tolerances and flawless paintability are particularly critical. Therefore, 18 bumpers are subsequently painted and inspected by Ford quality experts, among other things, for paint adhesion.
Practical training directly at the company
With in-house training, SKZ offers companies the opportunity to train multiple employees simultaneously and according to their needs—either directly on-site or at a location of their choice. The content is individually tailored to the respective production processes and requirements.
A particular advantage: The training takes place on the company’s own machinery and with existing tools. This creates a direct practical connection that facilitates the transfer to daily work and increases efficiency.
Upon request, training sessions can also be conducted in English or with interpreter support—a significant advantage, particularly for internationally oriented companies and multilingual teams.
