On November 19 and 20, 2026, the Stäubli Welcome Center in Bayreuth, Germany will become the meeting point for the automation industry of Northern, Central and Eastern Europe. The North East European Robotics & Automation Summit also marks the first major outcome of Stäubli Robotics’ newly consolidated sales organization.

Under the theme “Shaping the Future of Smart Manufacturing,” decision-makers, automation experts, machine builders, system integrators, and end users from Northern, Central and Eastern Europe will gather at the Welcome Center for the first North East European Robotics & Automation Summit. Over two days, discussions will focus on robotics, digitalization, physical AI, and how to automate production flexibly and cost-effectively.

One region, one point of contact, one team, one platform

The Summit is not a standalone event, but the result of a strategic decision: Stäubli Robotics has consolidated its sales activities across Northern, Central and Eastern Europe and centralized overall responsibility for these growth markets at its Bayreuth location.

In addition to his previous responsibilities, Managing Director Peter Pühringer now oversees the strategic and operational management of all countries in the region as Regional Robotics Director. The goal of the restructuring is to leverage synergies within the European sales organization more effectively, eliminate country-specific organizational boundaries, streamline decision-making processes, and strengthen the company’s market presence in key regions.

“A company operating in multiple European countries can now rely on a single point of contact across all its locations," says Peter Pühringer. "With the Summit, we’re bringing this benefit to life for the first time. We’ll showcase our portfolio of solutions in one location and connect customers, partners, and experts from all markets in the region."

For users operating internationally, the new structure means more direct access in the future:

technology, application expertise, and service all from a single source, regardless of where a Stäubli automation solution is installed.

Technical Program on Humanoid Robots, Al, and the EU Machinery Regulation

The event opens on Thursday, November 19 with a keynote address from Simon Schmidt of Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) on the latest developments in humanoid robots and insights from applied research. This will be followed by presentations on the new EU Machinery Regulation, the Cyber Resilience Act, and logistics automation.

A panel discussion on physical AI will bring together representatives from machine building, software development, and manufacturing. Later in the afternoon, experts will discuss areas in which humanoid systems can realistically deliver value in brownfield and greenfield environments. The program is complemented by concurrent workshops covering technologies such as:

Commissioning with the new generation of controllers

Automated TCP measurement

Practical experience with AGV installations

Stäubli integration partners will share groundbreaking solutions in a variety of engaging presentations.

The Friday, November 20 agenda will focus on life sciences, food, and software, including:

Digital twins and virtual commissioning

Al-supported quality inspection in food production

Food applications in hospitality

New automation concepts for the pharmaceutical industry

A conversation between Stäubli and AI specialist robominds, titled “AI Made in Bavaria: From Vision to Intelligence,” will show how the vision of a self-learning camera system gave rise to robobrain®, the company’s AI‑driven perception platform. In the process, attendees will gain insight into how AI, sensor data fusion, and robotics are working together to set new benchmarks in industrial automation.

Hands-On Technology in Two Application Arenas

Additional highlights include live demonstrations in two dedicated application areas. In the general industry area, Stäubli, along with leading technology providers and integrators from various countries will showcase advanced automation solutions, including:

AI-powered machine vision and bin-picking

Stäubli’s CNC Technology Package

Mobile robot solutions for intralogistics

The dedicated life sciences area will focus on isolator applications, aseptic processes, diagnostic applications, and food processing using hygienic design robots. For several of these applications, Stäubli technology partners make consistent use of artificial intelligence. Visitors will experience firsthand how these technologies create tangible benefits for end-user operations.

A Platform for Cross-Border Exchange

Apart from the technical program, plenty of time has been reserved for networking, enabling participants to forge valuable connections across markets and industries. This exchange is a core element of the Summit. End users from different countries are encouraged to learn from one another and adapt successful automation approaches to their own needs.

"The summit is more than an event. lt is a platform for cross-regional collaboration and innovation excellence," says Pühringer. "We want to demonstrate how technological expertise can be expanded and pooled while showing that Stäubli is more closely connected to its customers than ever before."

Medical Technology Ireland is one of Europe’s leading trade shows for medical device development and manufacturing. Taking place this year on September 23-24 at Galway Racecourse, the event will feature Stäubli Robotics and its comprehensive portfolio of innovative automation solutions for the medical technology industry.

The range of medical devices is vast, spanning everything from orthodontic braces and CT scanners to prosthetic devices. As diverse as these products are, all must comply with rigorous industry standards—and increasingly, they must do so amid ongoing innovation and industry trends, such as connected and wearable devices and personalized products, which are making manufacturing more complex and placing greater demands on traceability.

Automation offers solutions. “In the medical world, the rising demand for single-use devices like surgical staplers, which require precise assembly and testing, increasingly involves automation and robotics to meet high production volumes and stringent medical device requirements,” says Sébastien Lagarde, Global Leader, Life Robotics at Stäubli Robotics.

Robots and mobile robotic systems can make medical device manufacturing as efficient, reliable, cost-effective, and streamlined as possible. Of course, robots used in medical applications must meet the most stringent hygiene requirements. They must also withstand intensive cleaning and decontamination procedures, and only specially designed robots can do so over the long term without being damaged.

Forty Years of Expertise in the Medical Technology Industry

For nearly four decades, Stäubli Robotics has partnered with OEMs and system integrators to automate demanding medical technology applications. Drawing on its extensive expertise, the company offers a comprehensive range of robotic solutions for virtually any application. Whether used in assembly, machining, laser cutting, polishing, sandblasting, quality inspection, or injection molding operations, Stäubli robots support every stage of medical device production.

Stäubli offers hygienic, cleanroom-ready four- and six-axis robots across a wide range of payload capacities. Specialized models designed for life science applications comply with the most stringent GMP and FDA requirements and are adapted for operation in aseptic environments. Stäubli’s portfolio also includes the Access series, a dedicated product line that provides an affordable entry point for many medical device manufacturing applications while maintaining Stäubli’s high quality and performance standards.

Another key advantage for medical device manufacturers is Stäubli’s extensive quality and process expertise. The company is certified to ISO 13485, confirming that it meets the requirements of the internationally recognized standard for quality management systems for medical devices. This certification helps manufacturers comply with regulatory requirements by significantly reducing the validation effort involved in integrating automation solutions. Through documented processes, rigorous quality standards, and a consistent focus on industry requirements, Stäubli offers its customers greater assurance when implementing demanding production projects.

For highly flexible process integration and material handling, Stäubli offers a range of mobile robotic solutions, including platform AGVs, autonomous forklifts, and the unique Sterimove mobile robot— the world’s first Grade A/B-compatible mobile robot.

Automation That Delivers Significant User Benefits

With proven expertise and flexible solutions, Stäubli continues to set new industry benchmarks, helping manufacturers optimize scalability, process reliability, and productivity. Stäubli’s solutions are designed to meet all regulatory requirements in the medical technology sector, allowing medical device manufacturers to improve throughput and product quality while increasing efficiency and profitability. Automation also helps reduce human error, enhance transparency through real-time data collection, and create more flexible manufacturing processes—all essential capabilities for meeting the growing demand for personalized medical products.

At Medical Technology Ireland, attendees will have the opportunity to experience Stäubli’s technologies firsthand and discover the transformative role they are playing in medical device manufacturing.

Until recently, labeling Serrano hams, which is a must because it determines their progression through different aging and drying processes, was a laborious task. Since a robot could not detect the bones in the ham, human involvement was indispensable. Now, a Spanish systems integrator has developed an AI-based robotic system capable of performing this task. The labels – up to 900 per hour – are injected by a Stäubli SCARA robot designed for hygiene-sensitive applications in the food industry.

It takes 10 to 18 months of drying and ripening for a delicious Spanish Serrano ham to be ready for consumption, and this process consists of several steps. A medium-sized Serrano producer can process more than 5,000 hams per day, so labeling them with the week, year, and batch number is a small but crucial step early in the process. For human operators, this entails physical strain. It also requires expertise, as they must avoid areas with bones, which the application tool cannot penetrate.

No chance for automation?

It is obvious that given these conditions, automation would be progress. Yet, although the Serrano industry is not small, this goal has not been achieved, and it is equally obvious why: As a natural product, the position of the bones in the hams, which account for 30 to 40% of the total weight of an 8 to 12-kg Serrano ham, differs. For each individual ham, the operator must make individual choices based on their experience.

So, is there no chance of robot-based automation here, even though robots are certainly capable of applying labels? Timpolot, an automation expert located in Olot, a center of meat production in Eastern Spain, has found a solution by combining a Stäubli robot with a fastener applicator and an AI-supported vision system.

Robot-based labeling – with individual positioning

Jordi Bassols, founder and General Manager of Timpolot, describes the process: “The hams are manually placed on a conveyor belt in a random manner. A vision system identifies the position of each piece and, using AI, determines the ideal labeling point while avoiding bone impact.”

In the meantime, a printer creates a plastic label. A robot, installed beside the conveyor and equipped with a standard pneumatic fastener applicator, picks up the label and, guided by tracking coordinates from the camera, injects the applicator’s needle into the ham.

A robot that processes up to 180,000 kg of ham per day

The line described is operated by a major Serrano ham producer with a very high output. The SCARA robot, a Stäubli TS2-80 HE, processes 150,000 to 180,000 kg/day of ham at a continuous rate of 750 pieces/hour, peaking at 900 pieces/hour, which implies a cycle time of only four seconds. In fact, the robot could work even faster, but label printing and previous processes limit the speed.

Jordi Bassols: “By automating this task, we address several important aspects: first, improving job quality, reducing sick leaves, and allowing operators to be dedicated to higher-value tasks; and second, achieving better traceability control by centralizing all IT management at one single point.”

Designed for applications with high hygienic standards

The robot that Timpolot chose – the Stäubli TS2 series in the HE (humid environment) version – is designed for food industry applications. The surfaces are smooth, and the housing is designed to withstand regular cleaning with industrial detergents and medium-pressure water. Further, the robot is lubricated with food-grade H1 oil. “Hygiene is key in all food industry processes, and Stäubli ensures the reliability and food safety demanded by our clients,” Jordi Bassols adds.

But there are several other reasons why Timpolot opted for a Stäubli robot, such as the ease of programming it with the VAL3 system, and its mechanical excellence, with oil-immersed gear reducers that ensure a long lifetime. Smooth integration with the PLC is achieved through comprehensive connectivity to multiple industrial protocols. Stäubli also offers high-quality after- sales service worldwide.

In the words of Jordi Bassols, “Overall product quality is essential to a solid solution. With Stäubli, this quality is ensured, both in terms of finish and mechanical reliability. We know these robots will last for many years with few issues, which is key to guaranteeing that a production line is profitable in the long term.”

Data infrastructure: Connectivity between camera, AI-enabled PC, PLC, and robot

On the data and IT side, the camera is connected to a PC (running software developed by Timpolot), where image processing and AI-based analysis take place. The coordinates are sent to the PLC (Omron NX1P2), which transmits them to the robot via Ethernet/IP and manages the peripherals. In addition to handling I/O, the PLC serves as a key communication hub for all the line’s equipment, providing information to the operator via the HMI.

The role of AI is crucial here. Jordi Bassols: “Since hams are irregular objects, part of the algorithm uses traditional vision functions, but the integrated AI can determine the labeling point more precisely and predict bone positions, which prevents needle breakage during fastener injection.“

A food industry first: AI-based individual label application at top speed

The line has now been running for several months, to the client’s complete satisfaction. What makes it unique is the task it performs. Until now, labeling could only be performed by humans, as it is a complex process. As Jordi Bassols explains, “In the meat industry, no two pieces are identical, which makes handling more complex. The robot must allow smooth communication with the peripherals to adapt to constant changes. It also guarantees labeling quality, with all labels being placed in the same position on each ham, while ensuring reliable product traceability, enabling the client to deliver a high-quality final product.”

For Stäubli, the project was both a challenge and a success. Josep M. Serra, Robotics Director at Stäubli Española: “We have extensive experience with robots in the food industry, but this is not a common solution: a high-end automation system, adapted to high hygienic requirements, handling individual products with integrated AI and bespoke programming by Timpolot. We look forward to starting new projects with this innovative systems integrator."

The TX2‑60L MedX Ready robot, launched in November 2025, is an ISO 13485-compliant six‑axis robotic arm engineered to support surgical, imaging, rehabilitation, and diagnostics workflows. It delivers high precision, cleanability, and safety in highly regulated clinical settings.

“WHX Dubai confirmed that practitioner-centered, accurate, efficient, and data-ready robotics is now a strategic priority for health systems in the region,” said Olivier Mathonat, Medical Robotics Global Marketing Leader. “With TX2 60L MedX Ready, we offer the precision and cleanability clinicians expect, plus a development pathway that helps our partners scale faster.”

The TX2‑60L MedX Ready is the foundation of the Romed:X platform, developed with design and engineering partner Conicio and SQI, a specialist in digital software and regulatory integration. This modular system supports early-stage medical robotics development, combining a medical-grade cart, controller, and software environment for rapid prototyping and workflow testing.

At WHX Dubai, Stäubli demonstrated the TX2 60L MedX Ready within a Romed:X configuration equipped with modules for navigation, tracking, and imaging. The setup featured MedXguiding, an intuitive manual guidance mode that enables precise instrument control, along with the Atracsys fusionTrack 500 camera for high-accuracy optical tracking. Stäubli also showcased the platform’s IEC 62304-compliant software environment, including its software development kit and essential clinical applications, illustrating how Romed:X supports early prototyping and workflow validation.

Building long-term partnerships in the Middle East

Following WHX Dubai, Stäubli is establishing long-term collaborations in the Middle East, building on its proven expertise in surgery, rehabilitation, imaging, and diagnostics. With MedX Ready, ISO 13485 compliance, and trusted partners, Stäubli is committed to advancing medical robotics—regionally and globally—and supporting innovative projects.

Co Create. Customize. Support. Stäubli’s differentiation lies in its meticulous attention throughout the product lifecycle. The company’s development teams work closely with startups and medical device manufacturers from the earliest stages of co-creation, shaping next-generation products and adapting robotic solutions to specific clinical and technical requirements through tailored parametrization and risk analysis. This collaboration is supported by specialized medical robotics expertise and an ISO 13485-aligned ecosystem. After integration, Stäubli provides comprehensive lifecycle services—including maintenance, performance optimization, safety features, and monitoring—ensuring each solution remains reliable, compliant, and aligned with evolving clinical needs.

Stäubli Robotics supplies advanced robots utilized in medical equipment; as standalone products, its robots are not classified as medical devices. Rather, they are integral components that enhance the capabilities and productivity of healthcare professionals.
