The agreement establishes the foundation for an innovation-driven collaboration between the two organizations, with the aim of further connecting the life sciences ecosystems of Bavaria and Galicia.
The partnership seeks to advance new innovation projects, research collaborations, and technology transfer activities in future-oriented fields such as biotechnology, digital health, and artificial intelligence. In addition, companies, research institutions, and start-ups from both regions will gain easier access to new partners, markets, and expertise through joint activities, delegation visits, and matchmaking initiatives.
“Our collaboration with BIOGA demonstrates just how important European partnerships are for the future of biotechnology. It is impressive to see the momentum for innovation that both Bavaria and Galicia have generated in recent years. We see great potential here for joint projects and new forms of collaboration that can accelerate the development of innovations in biotechnology,” says Prof. Ralf Huss, Managing Director of BioM.
“Signing this MoU with BioM is a natural step forward in a relationship built over several years of shared events and growing trust. Galicia and Bavaria bring complementary strengths to the table, and we see this partnership as an opportunity for genuine collaboration — one that can turn into concrete projects for our companies, research centers, and society as a whole across both regions,” said José Manuel López Vilariño, President of BIOGA.
The Memorandum of Understanding formalizes and reinforces a collaboration that has already been in place for several years. Both organizations regularly engage in joint international activities and delegation formats, including BayOConnect and the Galicia Biodays. In addition, BioM and BIOGA are members of the Council of European BioRegions (CEBR), a European network that promotes exchange and collaboration among leading life sciences clusters across Europe.
The signing took place during BayOConnect 2026, BioM’s annual networking and partnering conference. Galicia served as a partner region of this year’s event, which was held under the theme “Driving Biotech in Europe.” A delegation from Galicia travelled to Munich to connect with stakeholders from academia, industry, and government, and to explore new opportunities for collaboration. BayOConnect therefore provided the ideal setting to further strengthen the existing relationship between the two organizations.
With the signing of the MoU, both partners are establishing an even stronger strategic framework to expand their collaboration over the long term and jointly drive innovation initiatives at the European level.
