Specialised load carriers for each customer play a crucial role in ensuring that the products are transported safely and efficiently to their destination. At the Forchheim and Kemnath sites, the availability of a sufficient supply of empty load carriers is essential to prevent delivery delays and avoid additional costs. In the past, however, bottlenecks often occurred because there was no accurate overview of their location and status. This resulted in unnecessary costs and logistical challenges. Recognizing the need to improve the management of its load carrier fleet, Simon Hegele sought a solution to minimise these bottlenecks and increase efficiency.

Greater transparency across the supply chain

The BOX ID Software Platform provides a comprehensive end-to-end solution for the management of returnable transport packaging (RTP), creating process transparency throughout the supply chain and reducing RTP losses. The cloud software, which can be used in a SaaS model, uses IoT trackers to create a transparent overview of the status of the entire carrier fleet in fractions of a second.

The software provides a clear cockpit of key metrics, as well as efficient data, device and user management, including numerous analysis tools for further automation and long-term process improvement.

On the road to supply chain digitalisation

Simon Hegele and a customer chose the scalable IoT solution to manage their load carriers because of its cost-effectiveness. Approximately 3,000 of these reusable transport racks have been fitted with low-cost trackers that enable precise real-time location and movement tracking via the wireless network. These battery-powered trackers have an impressive lifespan of up to seven years and can be retrofitted to existing carriers in minutes.

However, tracking the load carriers was only part of the comprehensive management solution. With the help of the BOX ID system, scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance are now also automated, visualised and much easier to handle. This integration enables not only precise monitoring, but also efficient management of the load carrier fleet by Simon Hegele. It also helps to further optimise the entire logistics process.

The implementation of the solution led to transparent tracking of load carriers within a few months. The new container management system achieved measurable success in its first year in terms of reduced shrinkage and increased availability.
