Tools and precision components are expensive, so repairing them usually makes more sense than replacing them. Every day a mold or a production line still costs money. At the same time, fine seams tolerate very little heat, and the result has to be repeatable. What systems for this work are designed to do can be seen in development and production at the Hanau site .
Mobile or stationary: the system travels to the part, or the part comes to the system
Whether a workpiece can be moved decides the design. Mobile systems are five-axis workstation systems that are brought to large or permanently installed parts. Stationary systems form the fixed workplace for recurring tasks. Sigma Laser builds both, each with an open frame and five axes (X, Y, Z, C, D). The size and weight of the workpiece are not limited by the system.
The mobile systems Sineo Light, Sineo Fiber and Sirius Light work directly on tools, molds and installed equipment on site. The stationary systems Sidanus Light, Sidanus Fiber and Siega Fiber cover precision work in the workshop and in production. For automated series production there is the Simass series with flexible modules, for example in medical technology, electronics and automotive supply.
Beam source and heat input: Nd:YAG, fiber laser and Super Pulse Technology
The Light series uses a pulsed Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm, the Fiber series an ytterbium fiber laser at 1070 nm. Super Pulse Technology is available on all six systems. It controls the heat input and produces even, low-distortion seams, which matters most on crack-sensitive materials such as high-carbon tool steels. Weld seams from 0.1 mm are possible, and the materials include tool steels, stainless steels, titanium and many special alloys.
Typical tasks in practice
- Repair and build-up on injection molds and die-casting tools
- Repair of precision components with little distortion
- Joining fine parts in medical technology and electronics
- Work on large components on site
"Our operating concept draws on more than two decades of operator feedback. The person at the system should be able to weld without being an IT specialist. The German Design Award 2025 for the Sineo system, which recognized that concept among other things, confirms the approach," says Alexander Bellouzi, Senior Design & Engineering at Sigma Laser.
Who the systems are built for
More than 1,000 companies in over 25 countries work with Sigma Laser systems, mainly in tool and mold making, medical technology, aerospace, automotive supply and electronics. Anyone who wants to clarify a specific welding task can use the application advice from Sigma Laser’s engineers .
Sigma Laser has developed and manufactured industrial laser welding systems in Hanau, Germany, since 2005. The range comprises six five-axis systems – mobile (Sineo Light, Sineo Fibre, Sirius Light) and stationary (Sidanus Light, Sidanus Fibre, Siega Fibre) – with Nd:YAG (1064 nm) or fibre laser sources (1070 nm), complemented by Simass automation modules and Super Pulse Technology. The Sineo system won the German Design Award 2025; customers are located in more than 25 countries.
