The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has included potash/potassium in its Final 2025 List of Critical Minerals. This underscores the strategic importance of this raw material. Potash provides the nutrient potassium, which is one of the three basic plant nutrients and is essential for plant growth. At the same time, the UN expects the world population to reach around 9.7 billion by 2050. According to the United Nations, around 673 million people suffered from hunger in 2024.
Against this backdrop, the supply of potash fertilizer remains a strategic issue for agriculture. Where high yields per hectare are required, a reliable supply of essential plant nutrients plays an important role. This is precisely why projects that could broaden global supply in the long term are coming into focus.
On the supply side, the market is relatively concentrated. According to the USGS, Russia, Canada, Laos, Belarus, and the US are among the countries with the largest potash reserves. This is an important point, as a more diversified supply is becoming increasingly important for agriculture and fertilizer markets.
This is where Millennial Potash’s (WKN: A3DXEK) Banio Potash Project – https://www.rohstoff-tv.com/mediathek/unternehmen/profile/millennial-potash-corp/ – in Gabon comes in. The project is located in Gabon’s coastal basin, about 60 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean and near Mayumba. The company particularly emphasizes the strategic location and potential export routes via the Atlantic coast.
There have also been several clear operational advances recently. On February 24, 2026, Millennial Potash (WKN: A3DXEK) announced that the company had been granted the new Haute-Banio exploration permit covering an area of 261.39 km². This increased the total exploration area to approximately 1,500 km². The new area borders the existing Mayumba permit and, according to the company, will be included in a future combined updated mineral resource estimate.
At the same time, the company has launched the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for Banio. According to Millennial, this DFS is being conducted in parallel with the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). According to the company, both studies will be incorporated into the documentation for the mining license application in the second half of 2026. The company also stated in this context that it has secured financing for the DFS and the associated studies.
The shareholder structure also sends a clear signal. In December 2025, following a further acquisition, The Quaternary Group Ltd. reported a 26.27% stake on an undiluted basis and 32.02% on a fully diluted basis. This can be interpreted as an indication that a significant shareholder continues to support the development of the project.
Despite the operational progress, Banio remains a development project. The successful completion of the DFS and ESIA, the further approval process, subsequent project financing, and technical implementation are particularly important for further development. Investors should therefore consider both the opportunities and risks equally.
