The focus will be on high-performance materials for highly energy-efficient electrical machines — from traction motors for electric vehicles to industrial drives and generators. With these solutions, ArcelorMittal responds to the fast growing demand for efficient technologies in e-mobility and industrial applications.
“The electrical steel market is evolving rapidly, particularly in high efficiency materials for electric drive systems. By working hand in hand with our customers, we are not only delivering advanced electrical steels, but co-creating the technologies that will power a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable future,” says Cristina de Lucas, CMO Electrical Steel and Automotive Sales Director at ArcelorMittal Europe — Flat Products.
Capacity expansion at Mardyck
To support fast growing demand for e-mobility and energy transition, ArcelorMittal has taken the decision to invest massively in a new production site at Mardyck in Northern France. The added capacity, in addition to the company’s existing electrical steels site in St-Chély-d’Apcher, will allow ArcelorMittal to triple its offer in non-grain-oriented electrical steels while improving quality, efficiency, and supply flexibility.
“With these investments, we reinforce our position as a leading supplier of electrical steels for the energy transition and e-mobility,” adds Cristina de Lucas. “We are increasing speed, efficiency, and responsiveness to deliver clear added value to our customers, while being the only European steelmaker operating two production plants and two finishing facilities dedicated to electrical steels.”
Upgraded product offer for modern drive technologies
At the exhibition, the company will showcase an upgraded Industry offer focusing on newly branded high-polarization, low core losses and high yield strength electrical steels. In addition, a key highlight will be the extended iCARe® portfolio, grades designed specifically for e-traction applications. These electrical steels combine ultra-low magnetic losses with high mechanical strength, enabling more efficient and compact electric motors. The products are now available down to a thickness of 0.2 mm — an important factor for higher power density and reduced installation space in modern drive systems.
Both Industry and Automotive products will be presented together with advanced coating technologies. These include self-bonding varnish (SBV), dot-glue bonding coatings, and environmentally friendly solutions (e.g. formaldehyde-free C5 and C6 coatings, PFAS-free).
