The private gold assets of German citizens rose to more than ten trillion euros in 2025, an increase of around 600 billion euros compared to the previous year. However, a large portion of this ends up in overnight money accounts. The interest rates on these accounts are usually lower than the inflation rate. Nevertheless, the number of people venturing onto the stock markets is rising. According to a recent YouGov survey, around 27 percent invested in funds and stocks in 2023, compared to 34 percent today. Securities investments should be made with a long-term perspective. This allows price fluctuations to be balanced out.
With the price of gold generally expected to remain strong, investors might consider investing in gold and gold mining stocks. After all, what central banks are doing could also be worthwhile for private investors. Central banks are increasing their gold reserves because gold represents value preservation and is leading to a growing shift away from the US dollar. This is a driver for long-term growth in demand for gold. The presentation by the BRICS countries regarding a gold-backed trading currency should also be seen in this context. The BRICS countries recently introduced the "unit." The unit consists of 40 percent physical gold and 60 percent BRICS national currencies. Although the unit is still in the test phase, it is clear that the role of gold continues to grow.
Rising demand for gold is definitely positive for gold mining companies, which are becoming more valuable as a result.
