TRADIUM Joins the International Scandium Association as Founding Member

TRADIUM GmbH, a leading raw materials supplier, is proud to announce its role as a founding member of the newly established International Scandium Association (IScA).

Founding of the International Scandium Association

The association was officially launched on June 19 and 20, 2025, during the 4th International Scandium Symposium & Critical Metals & Minerals Conference in Toronto, Canada. IScA brings together leading stakeholders along the scandium value chain to strengthen cooperation, improve market transparency, and promote the sustainable development of scandium applications.

Rachel Carnac, Co-Founder of the International Scandium Association said: “We’re delighted that TRADIUM has joined the association as one of its first members. IScA is set to play an important role internationally to help the scandium industry find the applications that could drive demand into the hundreds of tonnes per year, and it’s vital that we have companies like TRADIUM involved from this early stage to drive that market development and help foster a sustainable scandium supply chain.”

Scandium Gains International Importance

Scandium, a rare earth element, is gaining strategic importance in lightweight alloys, fuel cells, and other advanced technologies. Its growing relevance is also reflected in international policy: the United States recently announced plans to include scandium in the National Defense Stockpile, while China placed the element under export licensing requirements in April 2025. These developments underscore scandium’s rising status as a critical resource.

“We are proud to be a founding member of IScA,” says Jan Giese, Senior Manager Minor Metals & Rare Earths at TRADIUM. “Scandium holds great potential for industry and for future technologies. As a long-standing trading partner for strategic metals, TRADIUM wants to contribute its market expertise and help establish a transparent, sustainable framework for this promising element.”

The company is also a member of other leading industry organisations such as the Minor Metals Trade Association (MMTA), the Rare Earth Industry Association (REIA), the London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM), and the European Chapter of the International Precious Metals Institute (IPMI).

As a specialist in strategic and critical raw materials, TRADIUM supplies scandium and other metals to industry customers across Europe and beyond. The company combines over 25 years of market experience with high-security warehousing and professional logistics in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, serving manufacturers that depend on stable access to critical materials.
