According to reports, pension fund managers in India are planning to apply for permission to invest in gold ETFs. The regulatory authority is expected to review the proposal. India’s pension funds are growing rapidly. Fund managers want to increase their returns, hence the plans. India’s pension funds total approximately US$177 billion. Currently, however, gold, real estate, and infrastructure funds may only account for five percent of a pension fund’s total investments. India’s economy is growing, and the total value of pension funds has also risen sharply. Gold investments as a form of retirement provision are becoming increasingly popular in general, and India could now see a significant boost in gold investments. Indian gold ETFs have also been enjoying great popularity for some time. There are currently 21 listed gold ETFs in India.
Here in Germany, too, gold ETFs are enjoying an influx of new investors. Since the beginning of the year, the holdings of large precious metal ETFs have risen significantly. And it is no big news that in bull markets, ETF holdings of both gold and silver increase. After gold ETFs were rather unpopular for a long time and saw outflows, a trend reversal now seems to have come about due to strong inflows. North Americans are currently particularly keen on gold ETFs, followed by Asia. Gold ETFs currently account for around 3,657 tons of gold, the highest level in three years. But there is still room for growth, as mentioned above, for example in India. Those who prefer leverage on the gold price should opt for mining company stocks.
