SKZ qualifies specialists for digital process optimization in plastics processing

The Plastics Centre SKZ is expanding its range of further training courses specifically in the field of digitalization and offers companies in the plastics industry practical support on the path to data-supported and networked production.

The current four courses enable specialists and managers at different qualification levels to integrate digital technologies into their day-to-day operations in a meaningful way – from structured data collection and data analysis to the successful implementation of their own digitalization projects.

From data acquisition to structured evaluation
The “Fundamentals of digitalization in plastics processing” course focuses on developing a sound understanding of data-supported process management. Participants learn how machine data can be reliably recorded, stored in a structured manner and analyzed in suitable systems. Particular attention is paid to the selection of suitable interfaces and platforms, data visualization and the technical and organizational challenges in the context of IT security and integration.

Data analysis from Excel to Python
The seminar “Data analysis in daily practice” is aimed at specialists who regularly work with process or test data and have no programming knowledge. Using Excel as a widely available tool, typical tasks from production are used to teach the possibilities and limitations of data analysis, how data sources can be efficiently combined and how meaningful visualizations can be created.
The 3-day course “Data analysis in Python for plastics applications” offers a comprehensive introduction to modern analysis methods using the freely available Python programming language. In addition to an overview of relevant libraries and data processing tools, participants will learn how to efficiently analyse large amounts of data, clean up errors, statistically evaluate and visualize them using specific use cases from the plastics industry. The aim is to tap into data-based optimization potential and measurably improve quality.

Targeted implementation of digitization projects
With the 3-day course “Digitization projects for process managers”, the SKZ specifically addresses engineers, technicians and managers who are to strategically plan and operationally support digitization projects as an interface between production, IT and external service providers. Practical basics of project structuring with definition and objectives of digitization projects are taught. A particular focus is on the ability to independently evaluate and successfully implement projects – right up to setting up a digital twin on an injection molding machine. A sound knowledge of Python is required for participation.

“By expanding our course portfolio, we are offering companies practice-oriented support in qualifying their employees and taking into account the increasing demands for digital skills in the plastics processing industry,” says Christoph Kugler, Group Manager Digitalization at the SKZ Plastics Centre.
