Don’t forget: tin is a raw material for the future

The production of renewable energies is on the agenda of many countries, and tin is one of them.

Tin is a critical raw material and usually does not receive the attention it deserves. Solder is needed for printed circuit boards. And printed circuit boards are needed for electromobility and green energy supply. Unfortunately, around 97 percent of the global tin supply comes from emerging and developing countries, where mining often has a negative impact on the environment. Sustainable tin mining in conflict-free jurisdictions is therefore particularly in demand. Forecasts assume an increasing demand for tin and thus rising tin prices. While the price of a tonne of tin is currently around USD 24,500, experienced analysts such as those at BMI expect a price of USD 28,000 per tonne by 2024. Although global tin production is expected to increase, tin mining has been banned in Myanmar.

The International Tin Association then also confirmed the ban on mining by the Wa militia minority. After all, Myanmar accounted for around 77% of Chinese tin ore imports in 2022. And the Wa region accounted for more than 70 percent of Myanmar’s tin production in 2022. Although tin smelters in China have stockpiled the metal, there is a permanent supply shortage, which will support tin prices. At the same time, demand for tin should remain high and even grow. This is because the electromobility sector and the solar module sector are also growing. Both are strong consumers of tin. Tin companies that are located in excellent jurisdictions include Tin One Resources and First Tin.

Tin One Resourceshttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/tinone-resources-inc/ – is active with its tin projects in Tasmania and New South Wales.

First Tinhttps://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/first-tin-ltd/ – has projects in Australia and in the Ore Mountains in Germany.
