LANCOM OX-6400 series: High-speed Wi-Fi 6 outdoors

The German network-infrastructure and security supplier LANCOM Systems is adding to its range of outdoor access points. The OX-6400 series is the ideal solution for stable and professional Gigabit Wi-Fi in open spaces with a high density of concurrent users. Amusement parks, stadiums, schoolyards, parking places, cold stores and warehouses can be networked using this robust outdoor model with its IP67 protection rating. The LANCOM OX‑6400 variant features internal antennas, while the OX-6402 allows the connection of external antennas. Both access points are managed either highly automatically from the LANCOM Management Cloud or using an intuitive web interface. Management by WLAN controller is also an option. These new access points are available now from LANCOM resellers.

With aggregated data rates of up to 3,550 Mbps, the LANCOM OX-6400 series is ideal for environments with medium to high levels of user traffic. It supplies clients with Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11ax) simultaneously in the 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz frequency bands. With Wi-Fi 6 technology and 4×4 MU-MIMO, transmission speeds of up to 2,400 Mbps at 5 GHz and up to 1,150 Mbps at 2.4 GHz are available.

The four dual-band omni-directional antennas supplied (LANCOM OX-6402) provide extensive Wi-Fi coverage. Optional sector antennas support targeted coverage over specific areas. The LANCOM OX-6400 features an integrated dual-band sector antenna. Thanks to its wide beam-spread angle of 70°, it enables Wi-Fi coverage over larger areas such as warehouses, production facilities, or spacious public places. Point-to-point or point-to-multi-point links will soon be supported following a free software update.

PoE Passthrough cuts installation costs

The LANCOM OX-6400 series operates both with Power over Ethernet (PoE) as per IEEE 802.3at and with PoE as per IEEE 802.3bt. When connected to a switch with PoE as per IEEE 802.3bt, the access point is additionally able to supply a further PoE-capable device—such as an IP camera—by means of PoE passthrough. This can be placed completely independently of the available power sockets. This minimizes the cabling required for outdoor areas and saves installation costs.

Protective housing for the most extreme conditions

Reliable operations under extreme conditions are ensured by the dust-proof and water-resistant IP67 protective housing and an extended temperature range of -30°C to +65°C.

Integrated Bluetooth Low Energy technology

The Bluetooth Low Energy radio module integrated into the access points supports modern BLE beaconing-based applications, such as asset tracking or visitor counting.

WPA3 and backdoor-free security

A comprehensive range of security features such as WPA3-Personal, IEEE 802.11i (WPA2-Personal), IEEE 802.1X (WPA3-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise), as well as the simple, user-friendly connection of new clients via QR code ensure maximum Wi-Fi security.

As the holder of the “IT Security made in Germany” trust mark, LANCOM has also committed to keeping its products free of secret backdoors. This means the LANCOM switches, access points, routers, firewalls and the LANCOM Management Cloud operate at all times in compliance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), even in sensitive environments.

Stand-alone or cloud-managed

The LANCOM OX-6400 series operate as standalone units or managed from the cloud. When operating standalone, an intuitive web interface (WEBconfig) provides an ideal overview: Modern dashboards display the current Wi-Fi status and simplify the configuration of individual networks (SSIDs) and network keys. When managed with the LANCOM Management Cloud (LMC), the device supports zero-touch deployment for fully automatic configuration by the software-defined networking (SDN). It can also operate with a WLAN controller or with a virtual controller in a LANCOM vRouter.

Future viability with guaranteed updates

LANCOM regularly offers free updates for maximum investment protection. Major releases, release updates, and bug fixes are available not only over the entire product life cycle, but also for a period of two years after the product’s discontinuation. In many cases, critical security fixes and support reach far beyond that.

The LANCOM OX-6400 is available for EUR 1,590 excl. VAT (RRP). The LANCOM OX-6402 is available for EUR 1,790 excl. VAT (RRP). The access points have a three-year warranty, with an optional extension to five years.
