  • 16 September: industry day with talks and networking
  • 17 September: gaming event for the whole family
  • First public event in the former Colosseum cinema

gamesweekberlin 2022 will host a physical pop-up event in Berlin over two days – on 16 and 17 September – after the previous two editions had been held virtually due to the pandemic. The onsite edition under the heading "play. discover. connect" is being targeted at industry professionals (16 September) and game enthusiasts alike (17 September) and is funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg as it has been in previous years. Hardware outfitter and main sponsor is the new Berlin-based PC manufacturer TULPAR Gaming Notebook. The event’s venue is the former Colosseum cinema in Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. gamesweekberlin 2022 will the first public event to take place there following the cinema’s closure. The event will be open to all games fans from all over Berlin as well as residents from the neighbourhood. gamesweekberlin will be held in the historic cinema space – which is set to be used for cultural purposes again in the future – as well as in the large atrium and the former cinemas of the multiplex.

OnFriday, 15 September, gamesweekberlin will hold its Casual Business Friday when the Berlin-Brandenburg games industry is presented in showcases and various talks and panel discussions are programmed from 2pm onwards. The roundtables will include "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – a discussion about business culture with the industry’s heroes and heroines as well as its hidden champions”, "Look Mom! I’m on TV – the Dev Booster expert panel on promotion, self-promotion and fame" and "Centralisation x Decentralisation – a debate on working in the hub, without an office or a shop, and the importance of networks". The evening will then see gamesweekberlin and media:net berlinbrandenburg coming together to host the GAMES Summer Reception for the purpose of networking (Tickets 79,- €).

OnSaturday, 16 September, the Colosseum will be opening its doors to all of Berlin’s game enthusiasts. Gaming fans of all ages will have an opportunity to play games "made in Berlin" as well as such international titles as the Dev Booster finalists, board games or retro classics. A special highlight will be the gaming sessions with games like Street Fighter or racing simulations on the big cinema screen. Visitors can also participate in virtual reality experiences, cosplay presentations and a QuizNightShow as well as Pictoplasma screenings in the cinemas. Admission: regular price 10 Euros regular, 7 Euros for concessions and visitors in cosplay, 6 Euros for the last hour.

"The temporary use of the Colosseum in Prenzlauer Berg sees a long-cherished plan becoming a reality: gaming for everyone on the big screen! We couldn’t pass up this opportunity and decided, against all the obstacles of 2022, to bring the industry, political institutions and gamers all together in a pop-up format," says Michael Liebe, head of gamesweekberlin and managing director of the event’s organiser Booster Space.

Another aspect is important for the organisers: "We at Booster Space are committed to the sustainability of our actions and would also like to limit our CO² footprint for this event wherever possible. We are now concentrating on the upcycling of old event stock or digital screens for all our printed materials and branding onsite. We are supporting reforestation and biodiversity projects. We will be adapting our catering to the zeitgeist and avoiding disposable products wherever possible during the entire event. Let us surprise you with all that’s possible," Liebe adds.

gamesweekberlin 2022 is supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. The networking event takes place in cooperation with media:net GAMES. gamesweekberlin´s main sponsor is TULPAR Gaming Notebook. Sponsor of the Dev Booster format is Kickstarter. Organiser: Booster Space.
