Jaguar TCS Racing’s Mitch Evans secured the final point in the 2022 Shell Recharge Berlin E-Prix today in the eighth round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

For the second day in a row Mitch Evans lined up in ninth on the grid, with teammate Sam Bird in fourteenth after narrowly missing out on the qualifying Duels.

Mitch Evans held his position for the first ten minutes of the race before making an impressive overtake on Jean- Éric Vergne. The Kiwi fought hard to keep up momentum, but the abrasive track surface combined with heat of Berlin meant his rear tyres started to struggle and he began losing pace towards the end of the race. Mitch was able to keep fighting and finish the eighth round of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in tenth – the final point scoring position.

Sam Bird had a challenging opening few laps which saw him pushed wide and lose several positions early in the race. A solid energy strategy and an efficient Jaguar I-TYPE 5, enabled him to climb back through the field to bring his Jaguar I-TYPE 5 home in eleventh – just outside the points.

Mitch Evans is fourth in the drivers’ standings while Sam Bird remains in twelfth. Jaguar TCS Racing remain fourth in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship teams’ standings.

James Barclay, Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal: “It’s been a tough day for us at Jaguar TCS Racing. Some days that’s just how it works out. We didn’t find the perfect set-up today in qualifying and that carried into the race making it a challenge. We gave it the best with what we had today and were able to take away the one point. In this championship you have ups and downs and yesterday was a good day with a double-points finish. We shift our focus onto the next race now and we are really looking forward to taking on the all-new track for our inaugural race in Jakarta.”

Mitch Evans, Jaguar TCS Racing driver #9: “That was a hard-earned point. Here in Berlin we tried to unlock some of the great performance we had at other tracks this season but it wasn’t meant to be. We struggled a bit in qualifying which meant I just missed out on the  Duels. Yesterday we had some success, but the race today was a much harder challenge. Picking up one point was not what we wanted, we wanted to make more progress, but it wasn’t meant to be. The team and I are still at the sharp end of the championship, and we’ll work hard to fight for big points again in Jakarta.”

Sam Bird, Jaguar TCS Racing driver #10: “It was a difficult, challenging day for the team however we conducted ourselves in a brilliant manner. We want to bring home big points and this one is hard to swallow. Everyone at Jaguar TCS Racing will be working extremely hard to make sure we’re fighting for points and podiums again in Jakarta.”

The ninth round of the 2022 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship takes place on the streets of Jakarta, Indonesia for the first time on 4 June 2022.
