Cutting-edge system technology from SSI Schaefer for efficient order processing at Einhell

Einhell’s new flagship logistics center was officially put into operation on November 12, 2021. The impressive, fully automated 43 meter high high-bay warehouse and was realized by SSI Schaefer as general contractor for the entire intralogistics. With the new distribution center, the leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art tools for home and garden has created the necessary conditions to handle the accelerating increasing number of orders in the long term in a sustainable, efficient, and fast way.

Within just ten months, the 240,000 cubic meter distribution center was built, with the intralogistics components installed in parallel. Up to 2.3 million products can be stocked and prepared for dispatch in the new distribution center.

Focus on high availability and best possible delivery quality

With its new logistics center, Einhell Germany AG, the nationwide market leader in battery-powered lawnmowers and DIY stationary tools, is responding to rising sales combined with increasingly demanding customers. "We want to offer our customers not only excellent product quality, but also a reliable delivery service and high product availability. This is also one of the success factors of a growing company," says Dr. Markus Thannhuber, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Einhell Germany AG. The previous manually organized logistics system was not able to meet these requirements in the long term.

Reduced effort and complexity

The new high-bay warehouse offers a capacity of more than 41,000 pallet positions over 17 tiers with double-deep storage. Their supply and removal is handled by five 42-meter high energy-efficient two-mast SSI Exyz storage-retrieval machines from SSI Schaefer, which are equipped with two load handling devices. For each device, 35 storage and retrieval operations are possible every hour. In addition, SSI Schaefer installed the infeed and outfeed pallet conveying systems with integrated layer palletizing. In parallel, the standardized warehouse logistics software WAMAS® WMS was implemented, which controls all processes intelligently and efficiently on a continuous basis, considering the daily order load. WAMAS® Lighthouse is used as the central information system for visualization, dashboards, charts, messages, and administration.

Acting more sustainably in logistics as well as in transportation

"As the market leader with proven software expertise in the field of intralogistics, SSI Schaefer supplies the entire system technology from a single source, so that projects can be implemented with minimal interfaces and the desired quality within the shortest possible time," emphasizes Jürgen Kalkenbrenner, Head of Logistic Solutions Germany at SSI Schaefer and responsible for project planning. "But also, sustainability aspects spoke in favor of SSI Schaefer from Einhell’s point of view. Because due to their counterweight in the mast, the SSI Exyz storage-retrieval machines consume significantly less energy than comparable solutions." Thanks to the centralization of distribution at the Landau a. d. Isar site, Einhell was able to consolidate its external warehouses. This means that, among other things, approximately 2,000 truck journeys per year for stock transfers are now non-longer necessary.
