The 2021 Spring Edition of the Advanced Materials Competition Accelerator Announces Demo Day Winners

The 2021 Spring Edition of the Advanced Materials Competition program took place from the 26th of April to the 7th of May 2021. Eleven startup finalists were chosen to take part in the fully remote and online program. The startups were chosen for their innovative technologies in the field of advanced materials.

About the Advanced Materials Competition

The Advanced Materials Competition (AdMaCom) is a fast-paced two week equity-free Accelerator Program for startups with novel technologies in Advanced Materials. Organized by the Innovation Network for Advanced Materials (INAM), the program brings together the brightest minds in materials to make the right connections and to gain access to the broad infrastructure that the network is known for.

This year, INAM has decided to hold 2 programs: a Spring Editions and an Autumn Edition. In past years, INAM has invited startups to join them in Berlin for the program. However, due to the current pandemic, this past program was fully remote, making it easier for startups from anywhere in the world to participate.

The Winners

This edition of AdMaCom offered three prizes. The overall winner of AdMaCom was determined by the expert jury which included the following experts and members of the INAM Network: Gerrit Rösseler of Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie, Ginevra della Porta from the SAES Group, Nik Raupp of High-Tech Gründerfonds, Willhelm Hüttenes of Hüttenes3, Ran Escher of Continental, Tonino Greco from Sony and Ralf Westerheide of Robert Bosch GmbH.

This year’s overall winner of AdMaCom was GrOwnValve from Berlin, Germany. The team, represented by Dr. Boris Schmitt and Xiaolin Sun, has created a new prosthetic valve for adults and children.

The Mentor’s Choice Award goes to the startup which had the highest rated score by the AdMaCom mentors. After each mentoring session, each mentor rated the startups based on specific criteria. At the end of the program, these scores were tallied to reveal a winner.

This year’s mentor’s choice winner was Lios from Dublin, Ireland. Represented by Rhona Togher and Eimear O’Carroll, the team came to AdMaCom with their product SoundBounce – a smart acoustic material with superior noise reduction for use in the automotive, aerospace, construction and power generation industries.

The Crowd Favourite Prize is voted on by the Demo Day audience in real time and this year’s winner was CompPair. CompPair is from Laussane, Switzerland and was represented by Amaël Cohades, Robin Trigueira and Nicolas Gandar.

Biomodics Aps (Lyngby, Denmark)

Biomodics offers cutting-edge chemistries to improve materials for health-care and industrial applications. They deliver solutions which improves standard procedures without adverse effects. Their focus is to create a product portfolio making hospitals safe, improve quality-of-life and reducing health-care costs.

CompPair (Lausanne, Switzerland)

Current composite materials are sensitive to cracks, need expensive maintenance and are hard to recycle. Their solution cuts repair time from hours to minutes, extends product-life and makes the recycling process more efficient. CompPair brings on the market healable and sustainable composite material solutions to improve circularity.

COnovate (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA)
