Rocking the Road

At first glance, the bold presence and force of the bike‘s appearance has already taken it‘s toll. This is combined with its superior coolness and nonchalance. The name of this bike should not be forgotten: The Wunderlich RockBob!
Conjuring a bobber out of the R 18 was the goal for the Wunderlich engineers and the designer Nicolas Petit from the start. After all, the interpreted design and theme of the R nineT had caused huge international commotion and, above all, recognition. For the WunderBob, the experts from Grafschaft had for the first time used the Bobber atypical boxer engine, proving innovation talents. The custom-developed components harmoniously and effectively integrated, thus exposing stylistic independence and emphasizing the machine‘s immense recognition value.

The Basic Concept: Minimalist Design

The opportunity to turn the 1800cc cruiser into a bobber is much more evident than the R nineT. This is due to the long wheelbase and the above-mentioned stretched appearance. However, Wunderlich simplifies the R 18 with the help of a new purist design statement ensuring one hundred percent the essence of power, coolness, and sovereignty mentioned above. Those who confine themselves to the obvious are easily left missing the details of the overall concept and are concealed in its sophisticated finesse. The aspects are vital because the details make the ultimate difference, proving why it is worth taking a second look at the RockBob. The inspiration from the BMW R5, which undoubtedly contributed to the creation of the R 18, is expressed in Nicolas Petit‘s design: portraying the essentials to the extreme. In doing so, he has emphasized the sheer importance of details from start to finish. One example is the brilliant tail end. The fender nestles like a second skin with minimal distance around the 200 sized rear wheel, allowing the license plate holder elegantly placed on the left side. The maximum miniaturized 3in1 taillights are so cleverly concealed that one must literally thoroughly investigate the bike to recognize them.

Impressively Stylish: Materiality and Craftsmanship

Central and defining detailed elements of the RockBob concept are its materiality, texture and overall sensation. This approach is immediately experienced and visible directly once the rider glances at the bobber: On the swinging saddle and the handlebar grips, which visually display the on-point appearance of the RockBob, bringing the bike‘s flare to the next level.
The traditionally made, ergonomic saddle expresses warm cognac coloring in the rich leather, in which the coloring process advocates patination. The approach promotes the formation of individual character, which only develops in unison with the rider over an extended period.
The vintage-style spring saddle is adorned with the partially attached, diamond-shaped quilting of the cover. The bike‘s impression inevitably recalls images of another icon, namely the BMW R 32, which in 1923 gave birth to the legendary boxer at BMW. This simultaneously applies to the handlebar grips, bound with the same high-quality leather, perfectly matching the saddle.

Inspired by Heritage, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars and Bad Boys

Even if Wunderlich slickly cites the heritage of BMW, a bobber must also be American-inspired and have a distinct rebellious charisma. This ties into the style-forming time of Rock‘n‘Roll and simply belongs to this genre and lifestyle, and of course, the presence of motorcycles belongs to it. Therefore, features of American provenance, which can also be found on hot rods and muscle cars, are inspired by the typical „bad boy“ style and image. For the bobber‘s case, it is reflected in the dark surfaces and the color scheme of the engine and exhaust system: The engine is painted in the highest quality black, and the exhaust system and the manifold are coated in a black heat-resistant ceramic. Wunderlich deliberately chose the strikingly long and less playful silencer of the R 18 Classic. This emphasizes the overall style while limiting noise emissions. The tank displays a noble contrast of the matte, black paint in combination with the precisely applied, glossy double lamination, which is continued throughout the fenders. The handlebars and left-sided license plate holder are integrated into this color concept, including the puristic handlebar end indicators and mirrors. In addition to consistent reduction, chrome-plated series applications or plastic parts have been replaced by milled parts. All these aspects contribute to the clean appearance of the RockBob.

A Bobber with Outstanding Qualities

With the RockBob, Wunderlich has cited milestones of BMW traditions, fraternized them with the stylish elements of the Rock‘n‘Roll era, and staged them expressively and convincingly with the high-quality standards of Wunderlich. The RockBob, therefore, radiates a profound quality impression that is somewhat unusual for a bobber. The bike demonstrates the incredible versatility of customizing options that make individualization possible down to the very last detail without worrying about aspects such as ABE and road approval.

The King of Cool

The RockBob belongs to the category of motorcycles that are affiliated with both respect and pleasure due to their fascination. Before you get on, you approach the Wunderlich Bobber. Perhaps you pull a chair to its side, accompanied by a malt beverage, maybe a Cohiba. This is how you can connect with the machine and grasp the spirit of the RockBob to its fullest potential. This motorcycle tells a story. A story of minimalism and style.
