DW has today launched the series HER – Women in Asia. The multimedia format can be accessed on-demand on dw.com, DW’s social media channels and on DW TV in six languages: English, Hindi, Mandarin, Indonesian, Urdu and Tamil.

HER portrays the lives of women from all spheres of Asian societies, featuring protagonists from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan and Taiwan. In each episode, three women give their perspectives on universal, existential and crucial topics such as careers in male-dominated professions, mental health, addiction and marriage.  

The co-production between DW and its Asian partners, including Scroll Media in India, Dawn Media Group in Pakistan and PIK Film in Malaysia and Indonesia, is available on over 20 partner platforms in Asia, including VOOT and Starzplay.
DW Editor-in-Chief and HER Executive Producer Manuela Kasper-Claridge: "These are powerful and up-close reports with wonderful insights into the lives of Asian women. Rarely have women from Asia spoken so openly about their dreams, problems, desires and experiences."

DW Editors Bettina Thoma-Schade and Michael Wetzel are looking forward to sharing these stories also to audiences outside of Asia: "Our protagonists allow an astonishing level of closeness and intimacy. The strong statements combined with striking images leave a lasting impression."

Significant steps have been made to strengthen women’s positions in society. However, in many parts of Asia substantial hurdles still exist, especially in achieving gender equality. Through this format, DW and its partners aim to reach more women, to contribute to the discourse and to give women in the region a platform to share their voices on the challenges they face and what unites them.  

Season 2 is scheduled for the end of 2021 and will include three new regions: Thailand, The Philippines and Hong Kong.
