3D Pioneers Challenge

  • 3DPC 2021 announces the Finalists.
  • Prizes worth over EUR 70.000 await the winners
  • The tension rises: Who will win the limited 3DPC Design-Trophy?

The international design award for Additive Manufacturing and Advanced Technologies announces the nominees for the final. Until the award ceremony (22 June 2021), the 43 finalists will be presented on www.3dpc.io and social media.

In the sixth year of the innovation competition, submissions from 32 countries and 5 continents faced the top-class 21-member international jury.

The focus of the 3D Pioneers Challenge 2021 was not only on the core of Additive manufacturing but also on innovations in Advanced Technologies. The group of participants included pioneers of professionals, young professionals, start-ups as well as students.

The nominees for the 2021 final clearly indicate a "paradigm shift" – projects and products are being rethought through digital processes and technologies. Sustainability plays a major role in the "new normal", both ecologically and economically. Social-innovative concepts are taking steps into a progressive era of change. Back to the roots with new possibilities. The desire for the individual in a "New World" characterised by consciousness.

"What if…" our nature would be allowed to endure sustainably forever through new technologies and their cycles? "What if…" natural materials find their way into industrial use? The range is wide: For example, stem cells from animals are bred for the meat of tomorrow, and vegetable protein replace unecological production chains. Taste and familiar texture through bioprinting.

Sustainable strategies with renewable materials from nature’s laboratory. Additive manufacturing technologies are also democratising international trends such as vertical farming.

For more ecological awareness in mobility, the bicycle is once again moving into focus. The increasing number of entries in this fiels speaks for itself.

Initiated by the cooperation with nTopology and the ‚Special Feature‘, which offered participants the opportunity to generate designs with the help of their software platform, the performance of objects could be improved and parametric solutions in industrial design as well as in architecture or medicine could be created.

Jury 2021 The jurypanel, composed of politicians, academics, researchers, specialists of the industry and in their fields, discussed the quality of the submissions and the social responsibility of the finalists‘ presentation on the 3DPC platform in an almost philosophical manner. The submission, which take very progressive steps by means of Advanced Technologies, may well also trigger a controversial debate with regard to ethical and moral positions. It was assessed whether it is about the strong pioneering performance in the project or also the social relevance – to enable a paradigm shift with the new possibilities.

Award ceremony

We can look forward to the „3DPC-Digital Award Ceremony“ on 22 June, which will be realised in cooperation with the Stuttgart based office Jangled Nerves, whose interdisciplinary team specialises in communication in space and the connection between the physical and digital worlds.

Awards

The winners will be awarded during this digital event and can look forward to several non-cash prizes in addition to the prize money of €35,000, which is donated by the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society.

The main winner will receive the limited ‚3DPC Trophy‘, which was developed by jury member Ross Lovegrove, winner of 3DPC 2019 Hyperganic and partner Materialise.

The ‚Best Student Project‘ will get the Makerbot Sketch 3D printer.

Autodesk will award the ‚Special Mention by Autodesk‘ and offer three winners the opportunity to join the Autodesk Outsight Network – a global community of industry leaders in cutting-edge technologies.

As a new highlight in 2021, as part of "3DPC&Friends" network, nTopology will give "nTop Full version" annual licences to two winners.

The partners 3DHubs and avedition round off the package with book prizes.

The 3D Pioneers Challenge is thus the most highly endowed and prestigious design competition of its kind for advanced technologies worldwide, with a total prize value of over 70,000 euros, as well as the inestimable values of the limited 3DPC Trophy, the Autodesk Outsight Network and the network of the entire #3DPioneersCommunity.
