KIMO releases a new plug-and-play standard switch cabinet

New from KIMO: the FrigoPack BLU kompakt from the control technology specialist is a plug-and-play system solution which saves refrigeration technicians a lot of time. With the new plug-and-play standard switch cabinet, up to two compressors can be operated efficiently with a maximum refrigerating capacity of 50 kW. 

To commission the FrigoPack BLU kompakt, refrigeration technicians will simply have to connect the power cables to the mains and motor as well as the pressure transmitter and safety circuits – the new standard switch cabinet from KIMO is already ready for operation. Ahmet Kitap, Head of Applications at KIMO, explains: ‘Our FrigoPack BLU kompakt has a wide range of features and an extremely compact design. We developed it to help refrigeration technicians with their work because more and more is ultimately being expected of them.’ At the heart of the switch cabinet is the preset FrigoPackE FU+ frequency inverter with smart refrigeration software which controls an entire system with one or two compressors. ‘This makes it possible to create systems with a refrigerating capacity of up to 50 kW in no time’, says Ahmet Kitap. Another advantage of the installed frequency inverter is its full text display. It makes the system easier to operate and key parameters are clearer to read out. ‘Maximising operating reliability is just as invaluable in the eyes of our customers’, continues Ahmet Kitap. ‘That is why we designed the FrigoPack BLU kompakt in such a way that the switch cabinet initiates emergency service as soon as a component fails.’ The result is guaranteed refrigerating capacity at all times.

Various control types to choose from
When it comes to system monitoring, the integrated FrigoComp control module carries out lots of important tasks. For example, it controls the system status and displays it clearly with green and red LEDs. It also monitors the individual components of the safety circuit separately so problems can be identified and fixed quickly. The FrigoPack BLU kompakt is even flexible with regard to control types. ‘Our switch cabinet lets users choose between various different control types’, says Ahmet Kitap. ‘They can choose between control of a single compressor and coupled control of two compressors.’ In the simplest version, when a single compressor is frequency-regulated, the maximum rated current of the compressor motor is 45 A. With the dual-compressor solution, the maximum rated current of the compressor motor is 30 A and the contractor can choose between classic control and sequence changing. With classic control, one compressor is controlled by the frequency inverter and the second compressor is supplied directly from the electrical supply with on/off control. In contrast, with sequence changing, two identical compressors are speed-controlled alternately, with the other one being set at a fixed speed. This shares the load evenly between the compressors and extends the service life of the system. Ahmet Kitap: ‘As part of the coupled control of the FrigoPackE FU+, the condenser fan is controlled by a 0 .. 10 V signal.’ The engineers at KIMO added a motor protection switch for 1 and 3-phase EC motors for this reason. ‘In a nutshell, our FrigoPack BLU kompakt plug-and-play standard switch cabinet makes life a great deal easier for refrigeration technicians’, continues Ahmet Kitap. ‘And that is what we were aiming to do.’
