High Performance and Cost Efficiency: Precision industrial automation benefits from new V-817 linear stage series

PI (Physik Instrumente) broadens its portfolio with the new V-817 high load linear stage series. PI thus sets a new standard of price-to-performance in positioning solutions for highly dynamic and precise processing, testing, and inspection tasks in the semiconductor, electronics, and laser industries. The V-817 series is suitable for applications such as sensor and camera positioning, laser welding, optical and tactile testing procedures as well as wafer processing and inspection.

The V-817 linear stages are specifically designed for industrial applications with high operating cycles: 3-phase linear motors with recirculating ball bearing guides offer constant loads up to 600 N and velocities up to 3000 mm/s.

In addition, the incremental linear encoder offers a resolution down to 0.3 nm ensuring high path accuracy, minimum tracking errors, and short settling times. The calibrated positioning accuracy of the linear stages is up to ±2.5 µm. The travel range extends to 813 mm.

Flexible Combination and Easy Machine Integration

For multi-axis applications, the linear stages can easily be combined to XY assemblies. The axes can be assembled individually thanks to the optionally available motion platform and the triple M6 hole pattern. Without the motion platform, the linear stages are only 63 mm in height. Thanks to this space-saving property, they can be integrated as a single axis or as XY combinations in compact machine assemblies. Thanks to the flat design, the moving mass and tilting errors are minimized.

These linear stages are suitable for use in clean working environments since their movement does not loosen any particles.

The linear stages can be easily and quickly aligned during installation thanks to a specially-formed edge with a parallelism (//) better than 30 μm to the guides or to the direction of motion. Industry-compatible connectors with a high IP degree of protection offer a secure connectivity.

Industry-Suited Control Solutions

For the control of the V-817 linear stages, PI offers the G-901 electronics solution, which combines an ACS Motion Controller and drivers for up to four axes as well as an integrated STO (Safe-Torque-Off) module. Alternatively, individual ACS drivers can be used, such as udmHP/BA, udmPM, and udmPA that can be combined with the ACS Motion Controller as module solutions for single and multi-axis applications.
